A councilwoman for the Borough of Fort Lee since 2002, Kasofsky is especially passionate about Fort Lee’s Environmental and Beautification committee, a commission she founded to get residents interested in living “greener” and making the community more environmentally aware. With a concerted goal of conserving energy and resources, Kasofsky feels that keeping costs down is important to consider when asking people to change their “carbon footprint.” Through Kasofsky’s “Sustainable Fort Lee” program, she hopes to educate residents on everything from recycle, composting, using “green” products, eating local foods and produce and overall being mindful about keeping our community clean. Her love for a healthy environment has guided her to oversee the design and creation of the Borough’s two Community Gardens, the second of which opened in 2019. Both locations are extremely popular in the community and continue to have long waiting lists for garden plots every year.
The Councilwoman has also made strides in her work with the Health Department, advocating for flu shots, supporting the town’s expanding annual Health Fair, and serving as a driving force for her growing Women’s Health initiative, which presents opportunities for women to self-help and encourages them to find a balance of mental, emotional and physical health in their lives. Her focused missions right now are to raise awareness of her committees and their goals, save money and stimulate the town’s economy.
