Community Service

Councilman Sohmer cares profoundly about Fort Lee and plans to continue making it the best place to live, work and play. Sohmer has served the Borough as Chairman of the town’s Zoning Board, a member of the Planning Board, a member of the Housing Authority and as a Commissioner for the Parking Authority before becoming a Councilman. He is extremely honored to serve as Council liaison on the particular boards he’s been appointed to, especially the Police and Fire Departments.

A firm believer in community service, especially as it pertains to helping the youth in town, Sohmer is currently a Trustee of the Fort Lee Education Foundation, where he previously served as president, which raises money for scholarships for senior students planning to attend college. He also once served as president for the New Synogogue in Fort Lee.

Career

Before retiring, Sohmer served as a senior customer service representative for the large paper corporation, StoraEnso, a Scandinavian paper manufacturer.

Personal Life

Sohmer is a dedicated family man. He and Roberta have two married daughters, Stacey and Jill, who also attended and graduated from the Fort Lee School system. They are the proudest grandparents of Rachel and Lindsey.
